REVIEW of:
Video Girl Ai
![]() |
Poor Youta... Youta
is in love with Moemi-chan, a classmate and friend, but she doesn't have
the slightest idea. In fact, she considers Youta her best friend! What's
more, she just confessed that she likes Youta's best friend, right to Youta's
face! Depressed and confused, Youta stumbles across a video store he's never seen before. He rents a 'Video Girl' video (something between a 'comfort' video and a soft-porn video... heh) thinking that maybe it will take his mind off of Moemi... unfortunately, he plays it on his broken SVHS VCR... and while he's watching, the Video Girl (Ai-chan) suddenly 'transports' right through the TV screen into Youta's room! And then, much to Youta's surprise, she... to find out what happens next, you'll have to order it and see it yourself. =) Video Girl Ai consists of 6 half-hour episodes and is based on the 'Video Girl Ai' manga, though the anime has a different ending than the manga does. - Kiwi Note: This has been released commercially! | Comments | I have but
two words: MUST SEE I don't know what else to say... this series left me breathless and in tears. The characters are so absolutely real that you'll forget it's only an anime series! As for plot, there are no 'save the world' or 'good vs. evil' unrealistic plots here (save, perhaps, the sixth episode... more on that later); instead, the main theme of each episode is the little things in life and how they affect such things as personality and identity. The 'crises' the characters go through are extremely realistic and I *SWEAR* that the creator must have had an urequited love himself, because the actions, thoughts, emotions, and just everything about the characters SCREAMS 'realness' and 'believe-ability'. The only drawback Video Girl Ai has, in my opinion, is the last episode. If it weren't for the sixth (and last) episode, I would have given VGAi a 10 overall. Not that the last episode was all that bad, it just didn't seem to follow the flow of the rest of the series. The end was nicely done, but I think it could have been handled better. Anyone who calls themselves an anime fan and has NOT seen VGAi is, in my humble opinion, only kidding themselves. You have not witnessed REAL anime until you have seen Video Girl Ai. Watch it. Period. |
