REVIEW of:
To Heart
![]() |
Kamagishi Akari is very excited when she is going to enter high school (after summer vacation) along with her childhood friend Fujita Hiroyuki and her other friends Nagaoka Shiho and Satou Masashi. Hiroyuki on the other hand, is very tired and he does not care one way or the other. Yet that does not hinder Akari's true affection for him! In fact, she's been in love with him since she was very young. She becomes very happy when she and Hiroyuki sit next to each other in the same classroom. But how does he feel about her? Outside class, Hiroyuki meets new acquaintances (female acquaintances, that is) helping them out in whatever he can. Akari also helps these girls with Hiroyuki, and besides the fact of being near him, she learns an aspect of each girl. Based on the RPG game, To Heart was first aired on April 1, 1999. It lasted for 13 episodes. - Hanako |

| Comments | Don't think that because I rated this anime a 7, doesn't mean I don't think it's that this series is that great. I think that this is a very cute shoujo anime series, and believe me, it's one of my favorites. Hiroyuki is a lethargic boy, but he can be very kind (not to mention funny) at times. None of the characters are mean and whiny, like I see in a lot of shoujo anime. Akari is a very sweet girl! I love her friend Shiho! The only character that I thought wasn't that great was...well, no one! It's very easy to pick out favorite characters here. This series is also very short, which is good because I dislike watching some extremely long anime series. The animation is good, and very appealing. Although each character was formally introduced, they only showed up in one episode. I didn't really think that character development was totally great, with the exception of Akari and Hiroyuki. There isn't exactly a real plot, but it's still fun to watch. There is always some cute little "omake" (extra) after each episode showing the characters chibi style! Watch this series if you absolutely adore shoujo romance! It's definitely one not to miss! | I have to
say that this is one of the bright spots for shojo viewers on Japanese
TV in the past few years. But if you don't like shojo, you're not going
to like this series. Here we have an anime all about the characters--there
is no conflict or obstacle the protagonists must overcome and there is
no villain. And it's great! The characters are just so likable. Hiroyuki
seems to be the ideal man, for he is kind, is always willing to help out,
and is always there for his friends. All the characters are very well-rounded
because an episode is spent to develop each of the girls. Even though there
are a bunch of characters (9 girls and 2 guys in just 13 episodes), each
is different from each other. There's an athletic girl, an American girl,
a shy, quiet girl, and many more!! The viewer always knows what is going
on: there's no sense of mystery or conspiracy. The art, although not masterpiece-work
like Princess Mononoke, is effective for the series. The characters look
different, so it is easy to tell them apart. There is no reuse of footage,
like in most magical girl shows. The facial expressions and emotions of
each character are well-done, and the camera takes advantage of that.
This is really a series that makes you feel good after you watch it. No one dies, no one is injured, there is no tragedy. After each episode, you get a warm feeling that seems to make you think, "How nice." Perhaps To Heart is best described as a nice series rather than a good series. I really enjoyed watching all 13 episodes and wish that there could be more. A must see for all shojo and romance fans. |
