REVIEW of:
Shin Kimagure Orange
Road
![]() |
They're baaaaaack! This
is the second KOR movie, the first one since one of the most famous love
triangles (Kyosuke, Hikaru, Madoka -- second only to Wilbur, his wife,
and Mr. Ed, perhaps!) finally ended. Kyosuke is now 22 years old and a
photographer by trade... sort of. See, he's also 19 years old and has just
graduated school. Confused? It all has to do with the Kasuge Family's special
ESP abilities. After involved in a normal car accident, Kyosuke finds his
19 year-old self mysteriously transported, through his special ESP powers,
three years into the future. This, of course, leads to an interesting movie.
Any great fan of the original Kimagure Orange Road series should like this
movie, as they will recognize many old faces. Be forewarned, however --
the characters have matured quite a bit since the series, and this film
is a much more mature look into the three main characters' lives. Shin KOR
was based on a book by Jump Books, which just happens to be published by
the same company who wrote the book on which the first KOR movie is based.
Shin KOR aired 1997 in Japan -

| Comments | Although I enjoyed the original KOR television series, I found the Shin KOR movie SOOO much better! I am particularly pleased with the style in which the movie was presented -- it's a very different look at the characters, a much more mature and in-depth look. This, of course, leads to what I consider to be one of the best character-developments I have ever seen, in anime or otherwise! The first time I ever saw ShinKOR, I had never even seen the TV series and knew nothing about the characters beforehand, but I still felt that, by the end of the movie, I knew the characters VERY well. Now that I've seen the KOR TV series, I enjoy ShinKOR that much more. I find this a very touching movie, and in particular, there is this one scene involving Hikaru that just really really REALLY touches me. I most definitely recommend seeing this movie, even if you have no prior knowledge of KOR! A MUST SEE! | Wow! You have to see this movie to realize the quality of the art. Unlike the original Orange Road Television series, Shin KOR has leaned toward life-like people instead of cartooney characters. Not only is the art great =) but the story line will keep anime fans intrigued. If you haven't seen the Orange Road televisioin series, Shin might be a bit hard to follow. Yet, I would definitely recommend Shin to any Romantic movie fans. And to anyone who doesn't like romantic movies, it'll still be a worthwhile one and a half hours. | The reason why there are two scores for the "Clarity" section is because if you have watched KOR before then you will easily follow everything. However, if you are a first time KOR watcher then it is just a tad bit (I STRONGLY EMPHASIZE TAD BIT) harder in the beginning to fully understand everything. Either way you'll find that you will tremendously enjoy this movie. The emotional attachment you will develop for the characters is amazing. If there is a anime movie to watch it has got to be Shin KOR. There is no question about it. One more thing... I just LOVE the piano piece that Madoka plays for Kyosuke called "Kyosuke #1" it is a powerful piece of music that will capture your heart, I promise. |
