Flame of Recca
![]() |
Hanabishi Recca is a young high school student fascinated with ninjas and their fighting skills. In fact, his inspiration might have been the reason why he's such a good fighter. He meets this very cute girl named Sakoshita Yanagi after he attempts to save her life. After Yanagi thanks Recca, she reveals to have a healing power that she cannot explain. He does get a strange feeling about her, but he pushes that in the back of his mind. He takes her into an abandoned warehouse to show her some fireworks. Unfortunately, they are interrupted by a strange woman named Kage Houshi. Kage Houshi is very interested in Recca, as well as his "flame." Kage also strangely refers to Yanagi as "Ojo-san." (respectful term) Recca does not know who she is or what she talks about. That is to say, until he becomes angry and a strange burst of fire appears in his fist... Flame of Recca is 42 episodes and was fansubbed by Shinsen Gumi. - Hanako |

| Comments | It's hard for me to fully describe how I feel about Flame of Recca... I found the first five or six episodes wonderfully entertaining and was quite looking forward to watching more! However, about a quarter of the way through the series, Recca and his gang enter a tournament which lasts almost 30 episodes, all the way to the end! Once in the tournament, Recca and his crew never leave... all they do is fight the next opponent, until they get to fight the big daddy... Personally, I was quite disappointed in this development, as the first few episodes showed so much promise and so much potential! Still, the action scenes are quite well done and keep you on the edge of your seat. Though you pretty much get the feeling that Recca and his friends are going to make it to the last fight, you're never quite sure of the outcome of each individual fight, so that uncertainly is definitely a plus. The characters are well done, though there is very little development as the series drags on. Overall, however, I was so disappointed in the way the series threw out all the potential it had for some cheap tournament bout instead. Great for those hardcore action/fight fans, but it gets boring fast for those of us who like plot, romance, and variety. At least Fuuko-chan's cute. ^_^ My advice: if you haven't seen Ruruoni Kenshin yet, see that instead. If you have, don't expect Recca to be the next Kenshin, cuz it isn't. | I didn't think Flame of Recca was too bad, but I didn't make me want to watch it over and over again. I liked Yu Yu Hakusho better, but that's not the point. I don't know, but for some reason, the artistry wasn't very appealing to me. It can't actually put a word to describe it. I wouldn't actually say that the fighting scenes put me on the edge of my seat, some of it was gory and I could always expect that Recca would be alive at the end. Otherwise why would it last for more than 40 episodes? There is some light comedy in this series which made it interesting. There's also a chick that fights (Kirisawa Fuko)! I hardly see any action anime where the girl fights with the guys. I didn't think that Sakoshita Yanagi was that bad of a character at all either. Yet as the series progressed, there was no more focus on the main characters. In fact, it seemed like the main focus was to fight. And fight. And fight (catching my drift?). Yes, I admit to actu! ally liking Yu Yu Hakusho and Weiss Kreuz, but at least I got some character development. Still, I think that this would be very appealing to those who want lots of action with less talk. I was thinking about giving this anime a 4, but then again there were some good parts to this series. | |
