Mamotte Shugogetten
![]() |
Mamotte Shugogetten is about a boy named Tasuke who happens to be alone in Japan away from the rest of his family. His father is in China digging up artifacts and his sister is in Egypt doing something. As for his mom, well... she's just not there. Anyway, one day Tasuke receives a package from his dad and it turns out to be an artifact from China. After examining it for a while, a girl pops out of the artifact, kind of like a genie from a lamp. Except, she's not a genie, but rather a girl called Shao who claims that she is a Shugogetten, someone who would risk her life just to protect her master who is now Tasuke-sama. Although the theme where the cute girl would do anything to protect her master has already been done, the plot and situations the characters get into definitely do not lack orginiality. Mamotte Shugogetten is a twenty-two TV episode series which began to air in late 1999. - Sasami |

| Comments | I very much
enjoyed Mamotte Shugogetten. For those Saber Marionette J and Video Girl
Ai fans out there, Mamotte is the show for you! Though the whole "master/cute
girl who would give her life for master" thing has been done before,
(particularly in those titles named above) Mamotte is still refreshing
and fun. The characters each have a very unique personality, and there are enough differing personalities to create rivalries, friendships, fights, and of course your required dose of comic antics. While there is not much of an underlying plot that carries on throughout the series (as far as I've seen, at least), the character interactions provide enough material to get you through each episode quite entertained. Some of the situations that Shao gets Tasuke into are quite hilarious! In all, I definitely recommend this to you... at least check out the first episode! The only people this anime may not appeal to are the diehard action/gore or pure drama fans... otherwise, come and get your fix of comedy, romance, and fun! |
Mamotte Shugogetten is probably one of the finest anime series I have seen so far. The whole series was well done with a mixture of a comedy and a slight tinge of romance. Honestly, the plot to this anime series was very well thought out although the theme of series where the cute female guardian would put her life at risk just to save her master has been done billions of times. Even though, the repetition of the events were kept to the minimum and each episode was connected in some way. By repetition, I mean that this is not the type of anime series where one could tell what is going to happen by watching the previous episodes. For example, in some anime series, every episode seems to be made up of a formula where guessing the events of the story would not be hard. In the anime series, Akazukin Cha Cha, practically every episode follows the same repetitious formula where a new monster is introduced, tries to do bad stuff, and Cha Cha, the main character, uses her magic to kill the monster during the last five minutes of the show. However, in Mamotte Shugogetten, many of the events could not have been guessed so easily. Although the plot was pretty well done, the artwork did not really satisfy me too much. The characters were really drawn well and all their looks fitted their personalities. However, the backgrounds were quite horrible when compared to other anime series like Escaflowne. For example, the houses in the background of Mamotte were represented by orange cubes with brown triangular prisms on top of them. Also, the clouds in the skies were just several white spheres mashed up together and had color too solid to look real. I thought that the quality of the background art compared to everything else did not really fit in with the rest of the much higher quality art and could have been better. In all, this series hooked me on right away and made me want to watch episode after episode non-stop. | This series is one of the cutest ones I have ever seen. After watching the first episode, I just had to get more. The artistry and animation is excellent and the situations all the cute and cuddly characters go through is hilarious. Even though the plot reminds me of other shows such as "Ah! My Goddess" or "I Dream of Genie" with the girl trying her best to make her master happy, this story was able to pull out of the cliche plotlines with original and funny ideas. I absolutely love the music and the opening sequence where the characters look like they're dancing to the music (they're just sooo cute!). And, unlike stereotyped anime for girls and guys, I think that this series is enjoyable for both genders. There is entertainment, romance, and fun for all. This is definitely a must-see! |
