Lupin III, the world renown thief, is lured to a mansion after receiving an anonymous note. However, he is not the only uninvited guest to the birthday party being held. Members of 'Tarantula', the feared assassination group, mysteriously appear. Lupin helplessly watches as the guests are mutilated one by one by the deadly assassins. On his way out, Lupin is confronted by Inspector Zenitaga, himself. Suddenly, from the heart of a shady window, a hand aims a silver metallic walther p-38 toward Zenitaga's heart and pulls the trigger. Lupin is compelled to find the man with the silver walther p-38 for a reason known only to him. With his partner, Jigen Daisuke, Lupin travels to a remote island, which happens to be the headquarters of 'Tarantula.' After arriving at the island, Lupin willingly gives himself in, but to his dismay he is injected with a poison; a poison that all members of 'Tarantula' have flowing through them. With this poison circulating through his blood, ! Lupin will die if he breathes anything but the island's artificial oxygen. Now a member of 'Tarantula' himself, Lupin learns that not all of the assassins are blood-thirsty killers-- those have formed a secret society. With little choice, he accepts to aid the "rebels" in escaping the island, and in the act, steal 'Tarantula's' massive stock of gold as well. Lupin must find solutions to many problems and dilemmas, but first he must face the man with the silver walther p-38-- so he can put an end to his past. - Kjilo |

| Comments | Well folks, this has to be one of my most favorite Lupin movies. As Kjilo-san mentioned, Walther P-38 does indeed break away from the 'standard' Lupin movie. Although all Lupin movies have some violence, P-38 seems to be more bloody and gory than the others, a slight turn-off for me. Also a little out of the ordinary was the large amount of death involved... Additionally, the style in which Lupin himself is drawn is much changed from the earlier, "monkey-face" days. Today's Lupin is a much more serious and mysterious man, vs. the conniving and mischieveous Lupin of earlier movies. In my opinion, I miss monkey-face. But enough with the downsides... I found the plot to be very entertaining and grasping, very original as most all Lupin's are. Aside from Lupin, character design is wonderful, and Elen simply has the most beautiful eyes... <sigh>. Action-packed, with the patented "one Lupin plot twist after another", Walther P-38 is a welcome addition to the Lupin empire, and a must see for any Lupin fan. | There are two words that can describe walther p-38: non-stop fun (that's more like two and a half words...). IMHO, Walther p-38 is the best Lupin III movie ever created and one of the greatest anime of all time. It is filled with action, drama, comedy, and a bit of romance. The action is some of the best I've ever seen and the comedy is absolutely hilarious. What I especially liked about Walther p-38 was that it broke away from the traditional Lupin III series. Walther p-38 is probably the first movie in which Lupin didn't have his eyes on a particular treasure. Not to mention, Lupin's traditional oval eyes as well as his other facial features have evolved into a more serious look (which started with DoA). The one thing that bothered me was the theme music of Lupin. In Walther p-38, the entire piece was sung (more like hummed). It is very annoying to hear a "Du-du-doo-duuuu...." and "Du-doo-du-ahhh..." and especially a "He's soo groovy..." while Lupin is fighting to h! is death ('twas very catchy at first, but...). Walther p-38 is one anime that no anime fan can miss. I recommend this movie to anyone who owns a vcr. You can take my word on it, i watched this movie two times in a row when i first got it. | |
